Pangaea Partners with Clinton Foundation on Countrywide AIDS Treatment Programs

The William Jefferson Clinton Foundation has tapped the Pangaea Global AIDS Foundation as its treatment partner in Rwanda and the Bahamas as part of a bold, new plan to help government health services rapidly develop countrywide HIV/AIDS treatment programs. The partnership will focus on establishing local capacity to provide comprehensive HIV treatment and care, including the use of HIV antiretroviral drugs (ARVs), as well as to support the greater integration of treatment and care services with the countries' overall HIV prevention efforts. A Response to the Bush Administration's
Proposal for Global AIDS Funding

On January 28, 2003, President Bush made an unprecedented and historic announcement, calling for bold U.S. leadership in the fight against the global HIV pandemic during his State of the Union address. The President formally unveiled his "Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief," which commits the U.S. to providing $15 billion over the next five years for HIV prevention, treatment and care programs in the developing world.

Renè DurazzoAs Pangaea's Vice President of Global Programs, René Durazzo oversees the development, implementation, and evaluation of Pangaea's programs and partnerships. Involved in the fight against AIDS since 1987, he has been associated with Pangaea since its founding in May of 2001 and is a key player in the rapidly-evolving international effort to fight HIV/AIDS. Pfizer Provides $11 Million to Build AIDS
Clinic in Uganda

The Pfizer Foundation and Pfizer Inc have provided $11 million to fund a state-of-the-art clinical care facility at the Makerere University Medical School in Kampala, Uganda. This facility, which will be the product of a partnership of the Academic Alliance for AIDS Care and Prevention in Africa ("Academic Alliance"), Pfizer, Makerere University, and Pangaea Global AIDS Foundation, will train health-care workers, provide treatment to people living with HIV/AIDS, conduct research to strengthen protocols of care, and support prevention programs. Doris Duke Charitable Foundation Funds
Treatment Program in South Africa

The Doris Duke Charitable Foundation recently awarded a $177,000 grant to Pangaea to fund the purchase of antiretroviral drugs for treatment of HIV/AIDS patients in South Africa. This grant coincided with the February 2003 opening of a new clinic at St. Mary's Hospital in KwaZulu-Natal and allows for the immediate treatment of 80 to 100 people over the next year. More >

Goosby Joins Bono's Heart of America Tour
On World AIDS Day, December 1, 2002, Irish rock star Bono kicked off his Heart of America Tour in Lincoln, Nebraska. The week-long tour was intended to call attention to the HIV/AIDS pandemic in Africa and to mobilize a coalition of Americans dedicated to persuading President Bush and other government leaders to provide the funding needed to fight AIDS in Africa and elsewhere in the developing world. Rwandan President Honored During
Visit to San Francisco

His Excellency President Paul Kagame and Madame Kagame of Rwanda were in San Francisco on March 7th at the end of a weeklong visit to the United States. Madame Kagame and her staff spent the morning meeting with Pangaea staff to discuss ongoing HIV/AIDS treatment programs in Rwanda and to learn more about Pangaea's role. More >
