His Excellency President Paul Kagame and Madame Jeannette Kagame of Rwanda were in San Francisco on March 7th at the end of a weeklong visit to the United States. Madame Kagame and her staff spent the morning meeting with Pangaea staff to discuss ongoing HIV/AIDS treatment programs in Rwanda and to learn more about Pangaea's role. President Kagame, who had met with President Bush in Washington, D.C. earlier in the week, spoke at San Francisco's Commonwealth Club and attended a meeting at the Haas Business School at University of California, Berkeley. That evening he attended a reception hosted by Pangaea and the San Francisco Foundation and a dinner in his honor at the Fairmont Hotel, hosted by Pangaea and sponsored by Gilead Sciences.

President Kagame had been invited by President Bush to come to the White House to discuss a wide range of issues, including regional stability, economic development, and fighting HIV/AIDS. President and Madame Kagame have been at the forefront of the fight against AIDS in Africa and have supported the development of comprehensive care and treatment programs in Rwanda. Madame Kagame is also a founding member of the African First Ladies Alliance Against AIDS.
